TAMAQUA RE-VISITED

Just North of my home is the historic Coal Mining town of Tamaqua that has been a important place of history in the early 20th century. I have been here once or twice before, but this time there have been some little changes to the area where Coal was King long ago. This is the

BACK INTO HISTORY

This is called a “Steam Lokie”.  Used a lot at the ole’ #9 Coal Mine in Coaldale, PA to haul coal from the Mine to the Coal Breaker that was nearby.  The Breaker is no longer there, but this is all that remains from when Coal was King in this area. Remember the song by

MORE COAL COUNTRY

Photographed at the Pioneer Coal Mine, Ashland PA Long ago, this is what lifted the tons of Coal from deep inside a Mine. This is the Power Machinery that lifted the tons of Coal. Roads that lead nowhere, but into the brush. Had the chance to Tour this Coal Processing Plant with 10 other people.

Back up to the Coal Region area, I was told about this working Coal Mine located just outside of Mahoney City (pronounced “Mah-Ha-Noy”).  It is just one of the very few Coal Mines that are still around after so many years.  Here, I did not even try to enter the area because places such as
