LENSATIC COMPASS

Do you know how to read a Compass?  Do you know how to read a Lensatic Compass?  No, well I didn’t either, but I learned about it snooping around articles on the Internet.

I did know how to read a regular compass, but the Lensatic Compass was something that I was not sure on how this would work.  Even though it looks much more fancy than a regular compass it still works pretty much the same way, but with some added features.

As most of you may know the Compass will always point to the North Magnetic Field.  In the case above, it’s telling you that it’s pointing to NW.  If this is the way you want to go, turn and follow what it tells you.

The small little knob on the front is a sighting Lens that you can look thru and it will tell you how many degrees you are off NW sighting.  The Black Scale on the left will show you how much of a slope you are on.  Everything you see will fold up nicely into a compact carry case.

This is the real thing that I purchased from ebay.  It took me a little time to get used to reading a Compass like this, but you get the hang of it after awhile.  The inclometer on the left shows that the Compass is leaning 19 deg.  I should be 0, meaning it’s level like it should be.  What the other smaller numbers mean on the outside of the Compass, I’m not sure of yet.  Also, a Compass does not work well around electronic componets or when it’s around metal.  This is why it’s off North a bit.

I’m sorta like a “Gadget Fella” that likes to have different new things, but within reason.  I can’t afford to go out and buy expensive gadgets.  I keep it to a minimum.
